Mama T's Blue Raspberry Lemonade Recipe (1)

A few weeks ago, my family and I took a family press trip to Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa located in the beautiful city of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. You might be thinking, "WHY would you take two toddlers to golf resort?!" Well, Sawgrass Marriott offers so much more than golf and we instantly felt right at home thanks to the comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere and amazing staff members.

Speaking of amazing staff members, we were so fortunate to be greeted by Chef Tanya White at our initial lunch at The American Gator Club. She and her crew welcomed us with an incredible selection of food and drinks and had a special treat in store for our little ones. Chef Tanya, a.k.a. Mama T, brought out a tray of lemonade with fresh raspberries in the most darling mason jars for our kids. They loved them immediately, but the best was yet to come. The lemonade had blue ice cubes inside, and as the ice melted the raspberry lemonade slowly started turning blue. It was awesome!

I caught up with Mama T at breakfast the next day and asked her about her recipeso I could recreate it at home. She told me all about it and how she makes the ice cubes out of colored lemonade so the flavor doesn't get diluted. She also gave us some additional treats for the kids - homemade cereal bars in the shape of macaroons. This woman is a GENIUS! Thank you Miss Tanya!

Without further ado, here is my take on

You'll need:

  • Lemonade (you can use store bought like Simply Lemonade or make your own - see my recipe for homemade lemonade below)
  • Raspberries - fresh or frozen would work
  • Blue Food Coloring
  • Silicone Molds in fun shapes. We used Shells since that's what Mama T used (and they're SUPER affordable and come in3 different shapes), but you can also use good old fashioned regular ice cube trays.
  • Fun containers and straws are a plus, but they aren't necessary. We actually have a full supply of mason drinking jars and we have a selection of metal tops and plastic straws which are great.

Instructions:

  1. Separate some of your lemonade (I did about ½ cup for our molds) and add some blue food coloring until it's the shade you'd like. I used about 6 drops total).
  2. Fill your silicone molds and put them in the freezer for about about an hour until they're frozen solid.
  3. Pour your lemonade into your jars or cups and add a handful of raspberries.
  4. Add some of your frozen lemonade ice cubes

As your kiddos enjoy their lemonade, the ice cubes will melt and it will turn a fun shade of blue. I've already made this a few times since we've been home and I think it willbe perfect for playdates and parties this spring and summer too.

Homemade Lemonade Recipe:

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and ½ cup water - bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved to make a simple syrup. Let cool completely.
  2. Mix your lemon juice with the remaining 3.5 cups of waters and pour over your simple syrup and stir.

Do you think your kiddos would enjoy this blue raspberry lemonade?
If you're visiting Sawgrass Marriott, be sure to ask for Chef Tanya!
