Best Ever Lactation Cookie Bars: Delicious Secret Recipe for Boosting your Milk Supply (2024)

You’ve heard of lactation cookies, but what about lactation cookie bars? It’s like taking the best of a cookie and making it in brownie form.

Brownie-cookie-bar…whatever you call it, it’s doggone delicious.

Right now I’m nursing my 14 month old. Historically, around the one year mark, my supply always tanks.

It has with each of my three kids, and this time is no exception.

I knew I needed a little something extra to give my supply a boost. And it worked!

The following day, I noticed a definite increase in production.

I used inspiration from this Martha Stewart Oatmeal Raisin Bar to create this milk-boosting recipe.

Whenever my friends have babies, I love bringing them a batch of these lactation bars.

I even whipped up a batch the day before my scheduled c-section to bring to the hospital to help my milk come in.

Perfect for breakfast, or just a snack, they are not only filling, but also great for your milk supply since they contain FOUR galactagogues.

Galactic what?

If you need help increasing your milk supply, eating foods that are galactagogues could be helpful. (Bring on the cookies! Uh, bars!)

The galacagogues in this recipe are:

A note about Brewer’s Yeast

I’ve read many reviews of recipes containing brewer’s yeast. Some reviewers say that the brewer’s yeast adds a bitter or unpleasant taste to food.

When I created this recipe, I experimented with various amounts.

I found that using 2.5 – 3 Tablespoons per batch, does not affect the flavor.

The brand of brewer’s yeast you choose does matter. I read a LOT of reviews and ultimately chose Solgar.

Solgar – Brewer’s Yeast Powder

  • ALL NATURAL – Solgar Brewer’s Yeast Powder is an all-natural Brewer’s Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) which is a great source of amino acids, B-Complex Vitamins (B1, B2 & Niacin) as well as other minerals. Premium powder that is unfortified, unflavored, unsweetened and naturally delicious.
  • BENEFITS – Brewer’s Yeast supports healthy digestion as well cardiovascular health. It is also used to help promote healthy weight as well as supports lactation in nursing mothers.
  • SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS – Powder is vegan, non-GMO and is free of Soy, artificial flavors, sweeteners, dairy, preservatives and colors.

It had the highest reviews and customers specifically mentioned that it does not have a strong taste like other brands.

If you do not have any brewer’s yeast, you can omit from this recipe.

While the cookie bars will still be scrumptious, they may not be quite as effective at increasing your milk supply.
