"The truth is, creative people need creativity in our lives. Creativity sparked through hobbies will flow into the workplace too, and it tends to rub off on others."

Hobbies:

Hobbies aren't just good for you personally, they're good for you professionally. Make time for yours.

Many years ago, a PD told me that an employee's hobbies were good for the station. At that point, radio was my life, so I had no clue what she was talking about. In fact, I thought she was wrong.

The truth is, creative people need creativity in our lives. Creativity sparked through hobbies will flow into the workplace too, and it tends to rub off on others.

The creativity of others has definitely rubbed off on me.

It was a listener who introduced me to web design back in 1997. A date introduced me to blogging a few years ago (before blogs were popular), and a reader of my blog got me hooked on photography.

All of these things have impacted my work in a very positive way.

Blogging has made me a better writer.
Web design taught me about design and how people use it.
Photography taught me to take a second look, because there's more to be seen than what the eye picks up on.

If only I could make a career out of my hobbies... ahh, that'd be bliss.

...oh, wait. I think that's what I did.
